Create a clear scope list
List the areas, buildings, floors, machines or objects to be modeled and assign priorities. File names should map to the scope so that multiple revisions can be distinguished.
Keep scale, coordinates and revision information
Drawings should identify units and versions. Point clouds should retain their coordinate reference. Existing models should include the authoring tool, export format and texture locations.
Photograph both structure and materials
Capture overall views, connections, occluded zones, labels and material details from several angles. A single front view rarely provides enough information about depth or rear structures.
State the final application early
Presentation, Web 3D, digital twins and engineering analysis require different asset standards. Target devices, interaction requirements and formats should be known before production.
